New Billing Policy from 12th July 2021

Dear Patients

Today our goal at Nelson Plaza Clinic is the same as when we opened in 2010, to provide the highest quality healthcare with a focus on preventative health and chronic disease management.

To sustain and build on what we have achieved so far, we must be able to recruit and retain the highest quality GPs, Nurses and Admin staff. Unfortunately, the government’s neglect of Medicare and failure to maintain the rebates for GP services means that Nelson Plaza has been forced to introduced private billing from next month.

Some patients will continue to be bulk-billed for all consultations including:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Patients
  • Children 15 years and under
  • Centrelink healthcare card holders
  • DVA gold card

Some services will continue to be bulk-billed for all patients including:

  • Chronic disease management (for eligible patients)
  • Health assessments (for eligible patients)
  • Skin cancer excisions
  • Flu vaccinations
  • COVID-19 vaccinations

On 12th July 2021, standard GP consultations for patients other than the exceptions above will attract a private fee as follows:

Gap fee to patient

We recognise that this will be a challenge for some of our patients and we share your frustration that the government has refused to increase your Medicare rebate to even half of the recommended fees by the Australian Medical Association. However, we will not compromise our patients’ quality of care to postpone the inevitable introduction of fees.

Yours faithfully,

Nelson Plaza Management

    Gap Fees for some procedures

Unfortunately, due to the high costs of providing some procedures, Nelson Plaza clinic will be charging a gap fee for some items from 26/04/2021  as follows.

    Practice fee

    Medicare rebate

    Out of pocket cost

    Biopsy of skin

Excision of benign lesion (for which there is no medicare item number)

    $100 per 15 minutes

    $100 per 15 minutes

    Implanon insertion

    Implanon removal

    Implanon removal and reinsertion

    Mirena IUD insertion

    Toenail wedge excision

We regret that medicare rebates do not cover these procedures and would encourage all patients who share our frustration to contact their government representatives to pursue adequate funding of our health service.
